Our Approach

Today we invite you to look through a new lens: The Biomimicry Lens.

Through this new lens you will see Nature as a model, a measure and a mentor.

Life’s Principles

Nature as model, a measure and a mentor

When you use Nature as a model you can emulate nature and see Nature as an inspiration, nature becomes then a model for our designs. e.g. like velcro or swimming suits inspired by sharkskin.

When you use Nature as a measure you evaluate your designs. Are they truly sustainable? After 3.8 billion years of evolution, Nature has learned what works, what is appropriate, and what lasts.

Finally when you turn to Nature as your mentor you reconnect to the genius of nature and apply biomimicry thinking at a completely different level.

When emulating Nature there are 3 levels of emulations: Forms (shapes, structures), Processes (recipes, materials) and Systems (ecosystems, natural cycles).

And we can approach BM Thinking from two different avenues:

First Biology inspires us for a design or application or Second we have a challenge and turn to Nature for a solution. Both ways can start the Biomimicry Process, which ends with a holistic and sustainable solution.

Biomimicry is a branch of science, a new way of doing biology, a design methodology, and a sustainability framework. But it is also a movement, a stance towards Nature, a new way of viewing and valuing biodiversity, and above all, a way forward through our evolution as a species.
